FAQ
Frequently asked questions about IP addresses
Short answers about public IP addresses, location, VPNs, IPv4, and IPv6.
What is my public IP address?
The address shown on the homepage is the public IP currently used by your connection. The page detects it automatically when you visit.
Why does my IP address change?
Many providers assign dynamic IP addresses. Your IP may change after reconnecting the router, switching networks, moving to mobile data, or enabling a VPN.
Can an IP address reveal my exact location?
No. IP geolocation usually indicates the country and sometimes an approximate provider area. It is not a street address or the GPS position of your device.
How can I check whether my VPN works?
Note the displayed IP, enable the VPN, and reload the homepage. If the IP and provider change, web traffic is being seen through the VPN connection.
What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?
IPv4 uses shorter addresses and remains widely deployed. IPv6 uses longer addresses and provides a much larger address space for connected devices.
Does IPTest.ro store the address I check?
The tool returns the result without saving the searched address in the local database. Temporary request limits use technical identifiers to protect the service.
